How to download Redgifs videos on iPhone

You can download Redgifs videos on an iPhone or iPad with Safari and nothing else. Copy the video’s link, paste it into the downloader, and the MP4 saves to the Files app. One more tap moves it to Photos.

Step by step

  1. Copy the video link

Open the video in the Redgifs app or in Safari. Tap the Share button and choose Copy link.

  2. Open the downloader in Safari

Go to this site’s home page in Safari. Tap the link box, then tap Paste in the small menu that appears.

  3. Get the video

The video is fetched as soon as you paste. You see a preview, its length and a badge that says whether it has sound.

  4. Tap Download HD or Download SD

Safari asks if you want to download the file. Tap Download. A small arrow icon appears in the address bar while it saves.

  5. Find the file

Tap the arrow icon and then Downloads, or open the Files app and go to the Downloads folder.

  6. Save it to Photos

Open the video in Files, tap the Share button and choose Save Video. It now appears in your Photos library.

Where the video is saved on an iPhone

  • Safari puts downloads in the Downloads folder of the Files app. Depending on your settings, that folder is under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone.
  • You can change the location in Settings, under Safari, then Downloads. Choosing On My iPhone keeps downloads off iCloud.
  • A video only shows in the Photos app after you use Share and Save Video.

Tips

Use Safari
Other iPhone browsers can download files too, but Safari’s download manager is the most reliable and is the one these steps describe.
Pick SD on mobile data
SD files are much smaller. Choose HD when you are on Wi-Fi or want the best picture.
No sound after saving?
Check the ring/silent switch and the volume first. If the result showed a “No sound” badge, the original video is silent.

Questions about iPhone and iPad

Do I need an app to download Redgifs on iPhone?

No. The downloader is a web page that works in Safari. There is nothing to install from the App Store.

How do I save a Redgifs video to my camera roll?

Download it with Safari, open the file from the Downloads folder in the Files app, tap Share and choose Save Video. It then appears in Photos.

Why does the video play instead of downloading?

Make sure you tapped one of the Download buttons, not the preview. If Safari opens the video in a player, tap the Share button there and choose Save to Files.
