If your Redgifs downloader is not working, the cause is usually the link: it is the wrong kind, it was cut short, or the video is gone. The eight fixes below are grouped by what you see on screen, so find your symptom and start there.
All of them apply to our Redgifs downloader.
Redgifs downloader not working: find your symptom
1. The link is not accepted
The tool only accepts Redgifs links. Any of these formats work:
- A watch page:
redgifs.com/watch/videoname - An embed link:
redgifs.com/ifr/videoname - An image link:
i.redgifs.com/i/videoname.jpg - A direct file link:
media.redgifs.com/VideoName.mp4 - The bare video name on its own
Fix: check that you copied the link of a single video and not a profile, a search page or a link from another site. Paste it again and make sure nothing else was pasted with it, such as a line of message text. See how to copy a Redgifs link for the exact steps.
2. You pasted a Reddit link
A Reddit post address is not a Redgifs link, even when the post shows a Redgifs video. The tool tells you to copy the Redgifs link instead.
Fix: open the video from the Reddit post so it loads on Redgifs, then copy that link. The full walkthrough is in saving Redgifs videos from Reddit posts.
3. “Video not found”
This message has three common causes:
- The uploader removed the video.
- The video is private. Private videos are not supported.
- The link was cut off when you copied it, so the video name is incomplete.
Fix: open the link in a normal browser tab. If the video plays, copy the link again from that tab and paste the fresh copy. If it does not play on Redgifs either, the video is gone or private and no downloader can fetch it.
4. You are asked to wait
Redgifs slows things down when too many requests arrive in a short time. We do not set a daily limit ourselves, but we pass this one on.
Fix: wait about a minute, then press Get video again. If you see a message that Redgifs is not responding, the problem is on their side. Check whether Redgifs itself loads in your browser, and try again a little later.
5. The download does not start
You pressed Download HD or Download SD and nothing seemed to happen.
Fix: work through these in order.
- Look in your browser’s downloads list. The file may already be saving in the background, especially on a phone.
- On iPhone, Safari asks whether you want to download the file. Tap Download, then check the downloads arrow in the address bar.
- If you opened the page inside another app, such as from a chat or a social app, open it in your real browser instead (Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox). In-app browsers often block file downloads.
- Turn off any content blocker or download manager extension for the page and try once more.
- Check that the device has free storage. HD files are large.
6. The file will not play
Downloads are standard MP4 files, which play on every current phone and computer. If one refuses to open, the download was probably interrupted and the file is incomplete.
Fix: delete the file and download it again on a stable connection. If it still fails, try the SD version, then try opening the file in a different player. On iPhone, open the file from Files > Downloads, or tap Share and choose Save Video to play it from Photos.
7. The video has no sound
First check the badge on the result.
- No sound means the original video is silent. There is no audio to save.
- Has sound means the file includes audio, so the problem is on the device.
Fix: if the badge says “Has sound”, turn up the media volume, check the mute switch on your phone, and unmute the player. If you got a silent file from a different downloader, it likely grabbed the separate silent copy that Redgifs keeps of each video. Fetch the video again with our tool, which uses the full file. More detail is in download Redgifs with sound.
8. The download is slow
HD is the highest quality Redgifs stores, so the files can be big. On mobile data or weak Wi-Fi that takes time.
Fix: choose Download SD. It is a smaller, lower-resolution file made for phones, and it still includes the sound. If you want the HD file, switch to Wi-Fi, pause other downloads and streams, and keep the browser tab open until it finishes. The differences are explained in HD vs SD.
Still stuck?
Run this short check:
- Open the Redgifs link in a new browser tab and confirm the video plays.
- Copy the address from that tab.
- Paste it into the Redgifs downloader and press Get video.
- Try SD if HD fails.
If that fails, try another browser. Note that the tool takes one public video link at a time: profiles, private videos and image posts are not supported. The device guides for iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac show where files are saved, and the FAQ answers other common questions.
