To download Redgifs from Reddit, you need the video’s Redgifs link, not the address of the Reddit post. Open the video from the post so it loads on redgifs.com, copy that link, and paste it into our Redgifs downloader.
This guide shows how to find the Redgifs link behind a post, why the Reddit link is not accepted, and how to tell when a video is not on Redgifs at all.
Why Reddit posts use Redgifs
Reddit lets people post a link to a video that is hosted somewhere else, and Redgifs is one of the most common hosts. In those posts, Reddit shows a player, but the video file lives on Redgifs.
That means there are two different addresses involved:
- The Reddit post link, which starts with
reddit.comand points to the post, its title and its comments. - The Redgifs link, which starts with
redgifs.comand points to the video.
A downloader for Redgifs needs the second one.
How to download Redgifs from Reddit, step by step
1. Check that the post is a Redgifs post
Look for redgifs.com on the post. It usually appears as the source link or domain near the title. If you see it, the video is hosted on Redgifs and can be saved.
2. Open the video on Redgifs
Tap or click the post’s link to redgifs.com. The video opens on its own Redgifs page.
On a phone, the link may open inside the Reddit app’s built-in browser. That is fine for copying the link. If you have trouble, use the option to open the page in your normal browser.
3. Copy the Redgifs link
On the Redgifs page, use the Share button and copy the link, or copy the address from the browser bar. A typical link looks like redgifs.com/watch/videoname.
On a computer there is a shortcut: right-click the post’s link to redgifs.com and choose the browser’s copy link option. You do not have to open the video first.

4. Paste it into the downloader
- Open the Redgifs downloader.
- Paste the link into the box and press Get video. On a computer, pressing Ctrl+V anywhere on the page does both.
- Check the preview, the duration, the resolution and the Has sound or No sound badge.
- Press Download HD or Download SD.
The file is an MP4. HD is the highest quality Redgifs stores. SD is a smaller, lower-resolution file made for phones. Both include the audio when the original has it.
5. Find the file
- iPhone: Safari saves it to Files > Downloads. To move it to Photos, open the file, tap Share and choose Save Video. See the iPhone guide.

- Windows and Mac: the file goes to your Downloads folder.
Why the Reddit link itself is not accepted
If you paste a Reddit post link, the tool does not try to guess. It tells you to copy the Redgifs link instead. There are good reasons for this.
- A Reddit address identifies a post, not a video. A post can hold a Redgifs video, a video hosted by Reddit, an image, a gallery or only text. The address does not say which.
- The tool only talks to Redgifs. It looks up one video by its Redgifs name and passes that file through to you. It does not read Reddit pages.
- It avoids wrong results. With the Redgifs link, the video you get is the one you opened.
The extra step takes a few seconds, and the result is the full file with its sound.
Videos hosted by Reddit are not Redgifs videos
Not every video on Reddit comes from Redgifs. Reddit also hosts videos itself, and those use v.redd.it addresses.
If a post has no link to redgifs.com, our tool cannot save that video. It supports public Redgifs videos only. Image posts and galleries are also not supported.
Common problems with links from Reddit
The tool says the video can’t be found
Posts stay on Reddit long after a video has gone. If the uploader removed the video from Redgifs or made it private, the post remains but the video cannot be fetched. Open the Redgifs link in your browser. If it does not play there, it cannot be downloaded.
The link may also have been cut short when copying. Copy it again from the Redgifs page.
The download has no sound
Reddit’s player is often muted by default, so it is easy to assume a video is silent or has sound when the opposite is true. Trust the badge on the result. “No sound” means the original on Redgifs is silent. If it says “Has sound” and you hear nothing, check your device volume and mute switch. Videos belong to the people who made them. Save them for your own viewing, and do not repost or share someone else’s video without their permission.
