Redgifs to MP4: Save Any Clip as a Video File

Updated October 6, 2026

Getting from Redgifs to MP4 takes no converter, because every Redgifs clip is already stored as an MP4 video. Paste the clip’s link into our Redgifs downloader, press Get video, and save the MP4 file in HD or SD.

This guide explains why no conversion is needed, the steps, which quality to pick, and where the file ends up on each device.

Redgifs “GIFs” are already MP4 video

The name suggests GIF files, but Redgifs does not serve them. A real GIF is an old image format: no sound, limited colours and very large files for a few seconds of motion.

Redgifs stores each upload as MP4 video instead. That is why the clips can have sound, look sharp and load quickly. The site calls them GIFs because they are short and loop, not because of the file type.

This matters for two reasons:

  • There is nothing to convert. A tool that claims to “convert” Redgifs to MP4 is fetching a file that already exists. Our tool passes that file through to you as it is.
  • Nothing is lost. Converting video re-encodes it and lowers the quality. Since you receive the stored file itself, the picture and sound match what Redgifs holds. Nothing is added to the video either, so there is no watermark.

How to save Redgifs to MP4

The tool is a web page. There is no app, extension or account.

  1. Open the clip on Redgifs and copy its link. Use the Share button and copy the link, or copy the address from the browser bar. If you need help, see how to copy a Redgifs link.
  2. Go to the Redgifs downloader and paste the link into the box.
  3. Press Get video. On a computer, pressing Ctrl+V anywhere on the page pastes and fetches in one step.
  4. Check the result. It shows a preview, the duration, the resolution and a Has sound or No sound badge.
  5. Press Download HD or Download SD. The MP4 saves to your device.

The tool accepts a watch link, an embed (/ifr/) link, an i.redgifs.com image link, a direct media.redgifs.com file link, or the bare video name. It handles one link at a time.

HD or SD: which MP4 to choose

Both buttons give you an MP4 file, and both include the audio when the original has it.

HD SD
Picture The highest quality Redgifs stores for the clip Lower resolution, made for phones
File size Larger Much smaller
Sound Included when the clip has it Included when the clip has it
Good for Keeping, or a big screen Mobile data and low storage

Pick HD when you want the best copy. Pick SD when you are on mobile data, short on space, or the download is slow. The resolution shown on the result tells you how large the original is. For a fuller comparison, read Redgifs HD vs SD.

Where the MP4 file goes on each device

iPhone and iPad

Use Safari. The file saves to the Downloads folder in the Files app. To put it in Photos, open the file, tap Share, then choose Save Video. Step-by-step instructions are in the iPhone guide.

Android

Chrome saves the file to the Downloads folder. You can open it from the browser’s downloads list or from your files app. See the Android guide.

Windows

The file saves to your Downloads folder and opens in the built-in video player. See the Windows guide.

Mac

The file saves to Downloads and opens in QuickTime Player. See the Mac guide.

What about a real GIF file?

Our tool does not export GIF files. Downloads are MP4 only.

If you need an actual .gif, for example for a place that does not accept video, you can save the MP4 first and convert it yourself with a video editor or a command-line tool such as ffmpeg. Expect a much larger file with no sound. The guide on Redgifs to GIF covers the options.

Common questions

Do I need a converter after downloading?

No. The download is already a standard MP4 file.

Is the MP4 the same quality as on Redgifs?

Yes. HD is the highest quality Redgifs stores for that clip, passed through without re-encoding.

Can I get the audio as an MP3?

No. There is no audio-only download. You get the MP4 with its sound when the original has any.

Can I save a whole profile or several clips at once?

No. The tool takes one link at a time, and private videos and image posts are not supported.

The download failed. What now?

Check that the link opens and plays on Redgifs, then copy it again. More fixes are in Redgifs downloader not working and the FAQ.

The clips on Redgifs belong to the people who made them. Save files for your own viewing, and do not repost someone else’s video without permission.
